Ready for the dress rehearsal: Spa is the last stop before Le Mans

This weekend, Malthe Jakobsen and Peugeot TotalEnergies will be in action at Spa-Francorchamps when the third round

This weekend, Malthe Jakobsen and Peugeot TotalEnergies will be in action at Spa-Francorchamps when the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship is held at the famous Belgian circuit.

As a newly-hatched factory driver, Jakobsen is naturally looking forward to any opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar, but Spa-Francorchamps is a welcome track on the calendar – it’s a familiar one:

– “It will be the first time we’re doing the WEC on a track that I already know and that I’ve already driven the 9X8 on, so this time I can focus 100 percent on the task from the first lap in practice without having to get to know the track in a Hypercar – and that’s nice,” says Thy’s fastest man.

Saturday’s six-hour race is the last stop on the calendar before this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race that means a lot – both for Malthe Jakobsen and for his French employer. Therefore, this weekend’s round of the championship is also an important milestone before the most important race of the year:

– “Now is the time to put the last things together so we can get off to a good start at Le Mans. We’re up against good competitors, so if we’re going to hope for a good result, this is the last chance to fine-tune everything,” says the Danish driver, who is keeping his focus on Belgium and this weekend’s task.

– “We want both cars to finish in the top ten this time, and our car has been lagging behind a bit. We need to change that this time, so the task is clear – now we just need to get down and deliver,” concludes Malthe Jakobsen.

The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps starts on Saturday at 14.00 and can be followed on TV2 Sport, Eurosport or the FIA WEC app.
