Malthe Jakobsen is ready for the final race of the year in the FIA World Endurance Championship, where a familiar track will host the first race with a new teammate.
The first season for Thy’s fastest man in the absolute world elite is coming to an end when the desert state of Bahrain welcomes the last endurance race of the year in the FIA WEC. For Malthe Jakobsen, it will be a reunion with the track that has played a major role in him being able to pull on the driving suit at Team Peugeot TotalEnergies:
“It’s actually three years since I pulled on the white driving suit and drove my first kilometres in the Peugeot 9X8. Back then, I was the newly crowned European ELMS Champion and was invited to the Rookie Test after the season finale. It’s a bit crazy to think that three years later I’ve completed my first season as a factory driver in Hypercar,” says Malthe Jakobsen about the dream that became a reality.
This weekend’s season finale will be no time to look in the rear-view mirror. After a season where the French Hypercar has become stronger almost with every lap, Malthe Jakobsen hopes to finish with another top position. Even though the driver line-up has been changed in the car bearing number 94 on the side:
“Loïc (Duval, ed.) and I have brought Théo Pourchaire in for the final instead of Stoffel Vandoorne, and I’m really looking forward to that. Théo has done really well in other types of cars, so we need to integrate him into the team as much as possible and I’m sure we’ll have some good racing. The car is really good, so I’m optimistic,” says Malthe Jakobsen.
The 8 Hours of Bahrain will be run on Saturday from 12.00 CET and can be seen live on Eurosport and the FIA WEC app.
